Physics

Hi, I’m Emma, a fourth year physics student. Throughout my time at Oxford I have enjoyed learning about interesting and challenging topics ranging from quantum mechanics to general relativity, particularly as the Lincoln tutors are very supportive and always willing to dedicate more of their time to the students. This year I am working on my Master’s project in atmospheric physics and it involves computing to compare different ways of measuring the “waviness” of Rossby waves over the Northern Hemisphere.

Life at Lincoln has been a great experience. Although I had never even held a blade (or oar!) before, I joined the Lincoln College Boat Club to try rowing. Despite being a small college, Lincoln is very successful at rowing and I have had great fun both in the boat and at social events. However, for me, the best thing about life at Lincoln is the welcoming atmosphere and close-knit community. It is impossible to walk down Turl Street without bumping into a friendly Lincoln face and there are often social events held in Deep Hall.

Every year, Lincoln has also provided me with book grants and vacation grants, which have reduced the financial burden of staying in Oxford for revision. Overall, I have had a great time living and studying at Lincoln.
