I am extremely grateful to go to a college where participating in rowing is free to anyone from any background, as my university life wouldn’t have been the same without it.

Rowing

I’m Ellie Jaques and I am currently in my 3rd year reading Chemistry at Lincoln. For the past 2 years, I have rowed for the college’s boat club and have had a wonderful time in doing so. In both my first and second year I achieved half-colours from college for my commitment to the boat club. During my second year I was Women’s Lower Boat’s Captain which involved recruitment and coaching of new female novice rowers. Seeing their rowing develop so greatly over just one term was such a rewarding feeling.

During Summer VIIIs of 2016, I was in the Women’s 2nd boat and we had 4 consecutive days of fantastic racing, resulting in us ‘bumping up’ a position every day and earning blades (the highest achievement in Oxford bumps racing)! This was an amazing experience and we won ‘Team of the Year’ at the JCR Sports Awards as a result.

I am extremely grateful to go to a college where participating in rowing is free to anyone from any background, as my university life wouldn’t have been the same without it.
