For me, the Festival is special not only because of our students’ creative talent, but for the wider Turl Street community that it fosters.

Turl Street Arts Festival Secretary

The Turl Street Arts Festival is an annual week-long festival that takes place in Hilary Term. The Festival was set up as a joint endeavour between Lincoln, Exeter and Jesus to showcase our students’ art and as an opportunity for our students and staff to meet. For me, the Festival is special not only because of our students’ creative talent, but for the wider Turl Street community that it fosters.

The Festival is largely organised by student volunteers; in my first year I organised daily film screenings and an art and poetry exhibition in Lincoln's new Garden Building. This year I am the Committee’s Secretary and will be planning a street fair. There are no set guidelines for the week’s content or format, and I enjoy both the freedom and the challenge that this gives. TSAF varies each year but it usually includes concerts, plays, panel discussions, and smaller scale events such as art exhibitions, poetry readings, and dance workshops.

The programme has grown annually, and it is now the largest art festival in Oxford. This year will be its twentieth anniversary and as such the Committee want to make a special effort to mark the occasion.
